A Not-So-Silent Night

*So I'm finally posting about my Christmas songs. Frickin' LJ has eaten this TWICE! If it happens again, I'm quitting & getting smashedgoing to bed!*

For some strange reason, my cat Keyser, doesn't want to participate in this Holly!Jolly!Dance!Party!  *shrugs* Whatevs...if he wants to eat, he damn well better DANCE!

I'm totally kidding. Kinda...I can make him dance!

I will cop to appreciating the more "traditional" Christmas songs...Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Guy Lombardo. They're okay. But when it comes to what I listen to whilst trimming the tree...well...that music tends to hang out on the off-beat side of town.

My numero uno most favoritest EVER! Christmas song is Cheech & Chong's Santa Claus And His Old Lady. To hear it on the radio is always a special treat, much like coming across Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant or Adam Sandler's The Thanksgiving Song around TurkeyDay.

I've divided my list into 2 categories: CHEESE-TASTIC! & ROCKIN'!NON-TRADITIONAL!

(1)    The above-mentioned Cheech & Chong. If you haven't heard this gem, GO NOW! Ignore the vid & just listen.

(2)    The Heat Miser & Snow Miser songs from The Year Without A Santa Claus

(3)    Christmas At Ground Zero by Weird Al

(4)    ELVIS!!!! I actually have to list 5 Elvis songs here simply because it's ELVIS! Being cheese-tastic as only He can be!
      (a) Blue Christmas (so Awesome is the Cheese that's it's practically EPIC!)
      (b) Santa Claus Is Back In Town
      (c) Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)
      (d) Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me
      (e) White Christmas

(5)    Twelve Days Of Christmas by Bob & Doug McKenzie (take off, you hoser)

(6)    Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer by Elmo 'N Patsy. Maybe I'm just sick, but I think it's hilarious.

NOTE: on these next 2, my mother will be here to either agree with me or to beat me into submission by forcing me to watch A Christmas Story again & again & again & again & again & again (& one more time). Oh wait...she already does that!

(7)    Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt

(8)    Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee

(1)    The An Auld School Christmas cd by The Steve Carlson band (Shut up! Not one word from the peanut gallery!)

(2)    Gary Hoey's Ho! Ho! Hoey! & Ho! Ho! Hoey II cds. These are rock instrumentals of some classics, including Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer & You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch (totally rocks!). To hear some samples, visit Gary's MySpace page. Also, check out Gary's website...the dude freakin' ROCKS! Plus, I think he's kinda sexy...but he'll never replace my OoL!!!

(3)    Please Come Home For Christmas by Charles Brown

(4)    AC/DC's Mistress For Christmas.  What?!  It's AC/DC...I had to include it!

(5)    Little Saint Nick by Sugar Ray

(6)    Nat King Cole's The Christmas Song cd

(7)    Any & all Trans-Siberian Orchestra

(8)    The A Charlie Brown Christmas cd by Vince Guaraldi (The Vince Guaraldi Trio)

(9)    Do They Know It's Christmas by Band-Aid. This stupid song still chokes me up! *stupid as a term of affection*

(10)   Harry Connick, Jr.'s When My Heart Finds Christmas cd. I have a soft spot for Harry.

Under both categories, I have to include Bob Rivers.  Bob does song parodies, much like Weird Al.  My local radio station (WRIF, 101.1 Detroit-listen live!) plays a few of them this time of year.  My personal favorites include: I Am Santa Claus (Black Sabbath's Iron Man), O Little Town Of Bethlehem (The Animals' House Of The Rising Sun), & Jingle Hells Bells (AC/DC's Hell's Bells).

I heard another parody recently, but I don't know who does it (yet!).  It's called Get Down With The Christmas (Disturbed's Get Down With The Sickness) & it's really good.

I know there are plenty of other great Christmas songs out there, but these are the ones that make up my traditional Christmas playlist.

W00T!  Apparently, the 3rd time's the charm!  Now, if you'll excuse me, I've gotta get my Yule on.

*Keyser! Come on kitty kat...it's time to dahnce, dahnce, dahnce!*

P.S. many, many thanks to psychoactivtoad for my bee-YOO-ti-ful icon! You freakin' ROCK, missy!
