WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear LJ,
Why can't I make these letters BIGGER?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Detroit Red Wings 3, Pittsburgh Penguins 2

Wings' goals: Rafalski, Filppula, and Zetterberg

Pens' goals: Malkin and Hossa

1.  Captain, my Captain!  Nick Lidstrom is the first European captain to win the Cup.

2.  Henrik Zetterberg wins the Conn Smythe Trophy for Playoff MVP.  He's also responsible for the game-winning goal.

3.  Dan Cleary is the first Newfoundlander to win the Cup.

4.  Gary Bettman is a ginormous turd, but even he referred to Detroit as HOCKEYTOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.  The Ceremonial Cup Skate: Lidstrom, as Captain, gets the Cup first.  He hands off to Dallas Drake.  14 years in the league and this is the first trip to the Finals for "Dally" (HA!  Outsiders reference, FTW!). Pretty awesome, eh?!

6.  Cheli says he's coming back next year and he dedicates the Cup win to the two Cheli's Chili employees who were murdered last year, and their families.

7.  I love Nick Lidstrom and Chris Osgood.  And Brian Rafalski, Juri Hudler, Kris Draper...Dan Cleary, Darren McCarty, and Darren Helm.  Hellz Bellz, I love pretty much the entire team right now!
Including Kronwall (but Hasuck?  Not so much).

8.  The Cup weighs 35 lbs.  Except when you lift it...just like the commercial says.  *grin*

9.  Kirk Maltby's daughter, Ella, is ADORABLE!  Like Sammy!Adorable.  She's got this HUGE red bow in her hair.

10. This is the Wings' FOURTH Cup in the past 11 years.  It's their ELEVENTH in team history.

11. In order to get your name etched on the Cup you need to play at least 41 Regular Season games (and have to still be on the team when they win the Cup) or 1 Playoff game.  Or, the team can petition to get your name on it.  For example:  Vladimir Konstantinov, whose career was cut short after a car accident in 1997, had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup after the Wings defended their title in 1998. Detroit received special permission from the NHL to do so.
12. Brett Lebda is seriously adorable.

13. Filppula had another highlight reel goal in the 2nd period.  *pets him*

14. HUGE points to Marc-Andre Fleury.  This kid played his ASS off and has an incredible career ahead of him.

15. More points to the Penguins fans who stayed and stood during the Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup presentations.  You guys have one HELL of a team and I look forward to seeing what they do next season.

17. FYI: the reffing STILL sucked ass.

18. Chuck Norris
Kris Draper and his teammates can now (finally) scrape those Brillo pads off their pretty faces.

20. How frickin' AWESOME is it for Darren McCarty to get his name on the Cup for the FOURTH time?!?!?!?!  Other members in that club are Draper, Maltby, Lidstrom, Holmstrom.

21. There is something extremely HOTT about these boys spraying one another with champagne.  YUM!

22. Dear Nick;
        I find myself mesmerized
        by your blue BLUE eyes
        and your gorgeous dimples.
        Adoringly Yours, Raputathebuta

23. Mike Ilitch is seriously the ugliest man on the planet.  Also?  Possibly one of the richest.

24. Everybody is taking turns sipping bubbly out of the Cup.  At this point, I really doubt anyone is concerned with cooties.

25. Dear Opie Ozzie;
        Seriously dude.
        Run away with me.
        I'll definitely make it
        worth your while!
        Naughtily Yours, Raputathebuta

26. My neighbors suck.  I went outside a little while ago and it's quiet out there.  Too quiet.  Unsupportive turds.  *glares*

27. I love how the players' families all get to go on the ice for the Cup presentation and then they're all in the dressing room partying with the boys.  Case in point: Draper's dad just had a drink from the Cup.

28. Each player gets to spend "private time" with the Cup.  It's not as dirty as it sounds, trust me!

29. The Wings have clinched all 4 the 2008 Playoff Rounds away from home.

30. WHY are they talking to Hasuck????  Seriously.  WHYYYYY!

31. Hee hee!  Mini!Draper!  They just showed Kris drinking from the Cup and his little boy is standing next to him.  OMG..He's way too cute!

Side note: please do not let Kwame touch the Cup.

33. Heeeee!  By this point in the celebrations, a lot of the players are pretty tipsy.  Listening to the accents come out is hilarious.  I can barely understand Huds right now.  He's so cute!!!  *smishes him*

34. Mickey Redmond just asked who looked more like Chuck Norris: Draper or Cleary.  *snort*  Those are 2 seriously scary beards right there.

35. Cleary is totally hogging the Cup and it's quite humorous.

36. I am sooooo wearing my Draper jersey to work tomorrow.  I also have a Lang jersey and a Legace jersey, but since they're not with the Wings anymore (sob!), I don't think it would be appropriate to wear either of them.

37. Holy fuck!!  It's almost 1:30am and I'm wide awake.  *dreads going to work*

38. Oh to be partying with my boys!

39. They keep showing footage from the dressing room and some of the boys are getting undressed!  *eyes are glued to the tv*

40. Stevie Y!!!!!!!!!!!!  Y are you not drenched in champagne like everyone else?!?!?!

39. Quote of the Night: Wings' Coach Mike Babcock: I think Ozzie is a fantastic story.  You talk about us, but when you pull your goalie in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, that usually means you're going fishing in about three days, and not 14 more wins or whatever we needed to get it done. You gotta give him a lot of credit. He sat in my office at my house three years ago or two years ago, I guess, after the season and talked about reinventing himself and finding a way, and he did.  He learned how to butterfly, and he's improved his game.  And he's now back as one of the top goalies in the League because of his mental toughness and his stick-to-it-iveness. And I think he showed that in bouncing back and winning tonight.

40. 2nd Place QotN: Pens' Coach Michel Therrien: I'm almost speechless.  It's tough. We were that close. It is really tough, because this is a group that gave what they got. They deserve a lot of respect.  We got beat by a quality team. They showed it all through the regular season and through the playoffs. They played really well.  They were tough to play against, and the hockey god was not on our side tonight. But they deserved to win the Stanley Cup.
Really?  Does this mean we're NOT a bunch of clutch-n-grab players and really good actors?!?!?!  *kicks him*
